Summary

• Introduction to the RIPE NCC (PDF)

The RIPE NCC is an independent, not-for-profit membership organisation that supports about 4,200 members in 65 countries. This presentation described how the activities and services of the RIPE NCC are defined, discussed, evaluated and performed in an open manner.

The history of RIPE, terms of reference, its organisation, RIPE Meetings, RIPE Working Groups, the RIPE Policy Development Process and address management were introduced.

• RIPE Policy Development Process (PDF)

The RIPE Policy Development Process was explained including how the RIPE Working Groups reach consensus. It was demonstrated that the process is open, transparent and inclusive and that all discussions are publicly archived.

• Number Resource Organisation (NRO) - RIRs and Internet Distribution (PDF)

IPv4 address allocations to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) over time were presented and growth in LACNIC was discussed. Autonomous System Number (ASN) assignments to networks and IPv6 allocations to ISPs were also introduced.

This presentation provided an overview of global statistics of IPv6 allocations versus IPv6 allocations in the RIPE NCC service region.

• Current Proposals in the RIPE Policy Development Process (PDF)

The what, who and how of the RIPE Policy Development Process was explained using current proposals as examples.

• Internet Routing Security (PDF)

This presentation addressed security in Internet routing including the Deployment of Internet Security Infrastructures (DISI), Domain Name Server Security (DNSSEC) and the certification of Internet resources.

• RIR Resource Certification (PDF)

The external and community requirements and impact of RIR resource certification was represented along with a status update and outlook timeline.

Discussion took place and attendees were given the opportunity to ask questions.
