RIPE NCC Membership Reaches 8,000
On 23 March 2012, the RIPE NCC was joined by its 8,000th member, marking a milestone in the history of the Amsterdam based, not-for-profit organisation. As the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia, the RIPE NCC provides its members with Internet number resources, such as IPv4 and IPv6 address space and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs).
“We recognise this milestone as an achievement of our members,” says Axel Pawlik, RIPE NCC's Managing Director, “They form an important part of the Internet community and we are proud of what they have accomplished in this region. The RIPE NCC celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and marking 8,000 members in the same year is icing on the cake.”
The RIPE NCC's membership has been steadily growing since 1998 when it passed the 1,000th membership milestone, followed by 3,000 in 2001 and 6,000 in 2008. The organisation has been providing Internet number resources to its members and technical coordination to the Internet industry at large since 1992. The RIPE NCC also provides administrative support to Réseaux IP Européens (RIPE), a collaborative forum open to all parties with an interest in wide area IP networks and the technical development of the Internet.
